REACHING GOALS TOGETHER

LIVESTRONG at the YMCA

Through this program, the Y engages cancer survivors through an approach that focuses on the whole person- mind and body.

Participants of LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA work with trained Y staff to improve cardiovascular endurance and functional ability, build muscle mass and strength, and increase flexibility. In additional to physical benefits, the program also focuses on the mental health and emotional well-being of survivors and their families.

This program provides a supportive community environment where people affected by cancer can connect during treatment and beyond. Mental health groups focus on helping participants learn and practice skills that will both establish a healthy foundation of mental health and help support them when challenges arise.

The FREE 12-week LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA pilot program launched locally at both Y branches the week of March 7th, 2011.  The La Crosse Area Family YMCA works closely with Mayo Clinic Health Systems and Gundersen Health Systems.  Both medical facilities refer patients to the program.
